Discovering the meaning in life is one of the most challenging and ongoing issues that many people are dealing with. Everyone seems to have their own perspective and conclusion to what their purpose in life is. However, there is no definite or universal answer to the question. Although the concept of finding our purpose may seem relatively straightforward, it seems to continuously evade our grasp. Some people believe that possessing a good reputation or acquiring power and wealth is the ultimate meaning in life. However, others disagree and believe that realizing our gifts and using them constructively to the benefits of others is the true purpose in life.

Each and every one of us is equipped with a unique set of talents and abilities that sets us apart from everyone else. We should use these gifts to serve and be a blessing to those around us. Mother Teresa is the perfect example of a steward of God who realized that her purpose in life was to help the poor while living among them. She later described the experience as “the call within the call” which she could not turn down. During her numerous years of service in India, she spread her love and brought smiles to the faces of countless people living in poverty.

At the end of the day, every person has their own interpretation to the great philosophical question: What is the meaning of life? In our quest to discover our purpose, we have to keep an open mind and step outside of our comfort zone. Those who are too afraid to experience something new and take risks will often miss an opportunity to find what they have been searching for. Everyone will find their purpose only if they make the right effort.

1. What feedback was useful? Explain.

I found Chris’ feedback to be extremely helpful because it helped me pinpoint the weak areas in my essay that needed work. I was able to see that my introduction needed improvement, and was able to make the necessary changes. In addition, his feedback made me realize that I had not been very thorough with my example of Mother Teresa. Taking his advice, I elaborated on this example to link it with my other ideas.

2. What feedback is confusing and/or not useful? Explain.

Even though I appreciated Chris’ compliments on the strengths of my essay, I didn’t really find it helpful because it didn’t tell me what to improve on. For example, when he said I did a good job on my conclusion, I didn’t know how I could further improve on my conclusion. However, I found most of his feedback to be extremely useful and relevant.

3. What primary changes or adjustments will you make for your final copy? Why? Explain what you’re hoping to accomplish for the final.

In my final copy, I will try to improve on my introduction and strengthen the first sentence of my essay. Another part that I will work on is the example of Mother Teresa. After reading Chris’ feedback and looking over my essay again, I realized that my example was far too brief. In my final copy, I will aim to elaborate on my example and link it with my other ideas.

Chris: Your example clearly showed how discovering the meaning in life is very important. Your conclusion was very strong and summarized all the key points. However, I think you could still work on and improve your intro (stronger first sentence or maybe say how everyone is struggling to find meaning in life). Also, I think you should elaborate more on your example of Mother Teresa because it seems kind of brief. Good job!

  1. Very interesting essay! I like how there is a flow in your essay and it makes sense, though it left me wondering what your take on the topic was. Is it up to my own interpretation?

  2. Well done, the essay wasn’t too long and yet it was straight to the point. Your word choice in this essay made it a lot more interesting and enjoyable to read. I also thought the transition of each paragraph and sentences was really good and flowed smoothly. Nice job!
